The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has updated their guidelines on the use of digital media in the early years and issued a policy statement. Previous guidelines set a strict limit to eliminate screen time for children under 24 months of age.

The new guidelines recommend avoiding screen media for purposes other than video-based communication (e.g. Skype, FaceTime) until 18 months of age, encourage the practice of co-viewing for children ages 2–5, and recommend limit-setting at older ages. See the press release and policy statement here.
